Artisan Black Striped Udu - Ceramic Nigerian Hand Drum
This udu has a beautiful patterned look and a large, clear sound with big bass. It is comfortable to play on your lap or on a table; use the palm of your hand for deep sustained notes, slap it on the side for pingy high-end sounds. Made on the potter's wheel in two pieces, it's texture was created by painting the udu with black stained clay, and then scraping away select areas to reveal the white clay underneath. Made of stoneware ceramic, fired at 2200 degrees, this piece is rock solid and functional both as a musical instrument and a piece of visual art. The drum weighs 11 lbs, and is 12 inches tall and 12 inches wide.
